Composer/writer/multi-instrumentalist Steve Maclean created a new work centering on the numeric sequences found in the Mayan 2000 year calendar. A 13 X 20 matrix of numbers dictated the pitches, rhythm patterns and structure of the pieces. This brilliant, complicated and tedious work resulted in extensive preparation and an extended one day recording session, one CD and one public appearance.
As difficult as this music was (mostly because it's note sequences are not typical of any other known genre. Think of it as whole tone series with no references to formal Western music modalities. The compositions were incredibly rewarding to play and listen to.
